Rector Search
St. John’s Episcopal Church, Helena -West Helena
Full-time Rector
Accepting nominees.
St. John’s Episcopal church, established in 1853 is located in the Historic Downtown area of Helena. We have been called the “Jewel of the Delta” due to our stunning sanctuary and stained-glass windows.
Located on the Mississippi River, our community celebrates the rich cultural roots of this area with the annual internationally acclaimed King Biscuit Blues Festival. We also host the Warfield Concert series that includes many world-renowned entertainers and Ballet Companies. We also welcome anglers every spring with the International Bill Dance World Champion Monster Catfish Tournament.
Along with our cultural contributions, we are blessed to be located next to the St. Francis National Forest and near the White River Refuge that provides ample hiking trails, hunting, and fishing opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.
St. John’s is strongly committed to our outreach programs: the Grace Food Panty, the Angels of Grace Women’s Shelter, the Anchor Mission Ministries, our Giving Fence ministry, and our Bingo at the Manor Retirement Home. Our Ophelia Polk Moore Trust awards nearly $35,000 in grants each year.
We recognize that although we are smaller in numbers now, we are enthusiastic and intentional in wanting to develop new patterns of growth and service in our community. As part of our own renewal, we have joined the Pivot Program sponsored by the Episcopal Church Foundation. The program is designed to assist small and rural churches in their capacity to grow and thrive. This has led to the development of a new Mission Statement, Vision Statement, Core Values Statement, and the implementation of several new ministries and programs.
We see our most important work as providing a place where all can grow in their relationship with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. In keeping with our Baptismal Covenant we seek to “proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ.” Wherever you are on your spiritual journey you will find St. John’s to be a place where you are welcomed, respected and valued. St. John’s is proud to be a place where all are welcomed.
We recognize that the church is changing, and we need to be open to the evolving and changing culture. We are seeking a rector who is inspiring, engaging, and energetic who can help us navigate through this uncharted territory. Our Mission Statement underscores our commitment to this effort: “To know God, to love God, and to serve God, by loving all, welcoming all, and serving all.”
If you are interested in being a part of our lives, or you know a priest who would be willing to walk this journey with us, please contact the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas Interim Transition Minister, Judy Lohmar: [email protected]
May we all be blessed as we wait for God’s will to unfold and as we try to walk more closely in the footsteps of Christ.

SEARCH PRAYER
Gracious God, grant us your grace as we search for our next rector and spiritual leader. Give us openness and curiosity, a willingness to embrace change, and a hope for new possibilities for our congregation and our community of Helena. Give the Search Committee wisdom and discernment as they do their work in your name, and give us all the faith to put ourselves in your hands, knowing that you are doing more for us than we can desire, imagine, or pray for; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
